Rear Admiral John Mauger (Ret.) Peake Fellowship Executive Director
Rear Admiral John Mauger, U.S. Coast Guard (retired) has over 30 years of leadership experience in national security, intermodal supply chains, and cybersecurity training. Known for his innovative approach to problem solving and ability to drive change, RADM Mauger has helped transform each organization he has led—from commanding complex Coast Guard operations to shaping the future of cyber defense.
At U.S. Cyber Command, he revolutionized cyber training, developing a cloud-based environment that modernized cyber exercises and increased readiness. In addition, John partnered with academia, private industry, and state governments to advance cyber education and credentialing.
Earlier in his career, John sailed as a shipboard engineer, wrote software to automate business functions, and led key regulatory projects for both domestic and international shipping. His work spanned all Coast Guard missions and served to protect mariners and the environment, created new markets for alternative fuels, and established new international regulations and processes to safeguard vital Polar regions.
As a Flag Officer, John served as a Coast Guard Executive Champion for mentoring future leaders and driving organizational change, and as a Trustee for the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
As Commander of the First Coast Guard District, John led 12,000 personnel and oversaw critical port operations from Maine to New Jersey, deploying innovative technologies such as counter-drone systems to enhance security. Internationally, his crisis management skills were highlighted when world attention focused on the search and recovery of the Titan submersible at the Titanic site.
John earned a Bachelor of Science in Math and Computer Science with honors from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, a Master of Science with honors in Fire Protection Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and a Master of Science in National Security (with distinction) from the National Defense University
In his Peake Fellowship role, RADM Mauger continues advancing training and systems that strengthen individual and team performance across the Defense Industrial Base ecosystem and critical infrastructure industries.
